There are no courses arranged at present however Potager is available as a venue - with or without a tutor. Please contact us for more information.
In addition to teaching horticulture, Dan Thomas (Potager co-founder) is availbale to give talks:
My talks are presentations and I supply all of the equipment including a screen where necessary. I am a qualified teacher and authorised speaker for the Womens Institue. I am used to giving talks at all types of venues and events including after-dinner engagements, charity evenings, National Trust, Rotary, U3A or at Potager for your visiting group.
Usually my talks last between 45 and 50 minutes. I am very happy to expand them into a guided tour of Potager or a days workshop on Permaculture.
From Brambles to Blackcurrants
a talk with power point presentation
My talk is about the journey from plant table outside our little terraced house in Gweek to buying an overgrown and derelict nursery, its transformation into a beautiful demonsrtation organic garden that is open to the public.
This talk has been welcomed with such a great deal of enthusiasm that I have been persuaded to prepare another talk which was launched in October 2010
How I Permacultured my Garden, My House and Myself!
-a talk with power point presentation-
After the success of my first talk From Brambles to Blackcurrants I was asked to create another talk moving on from the early days of Potager. Although it touches on Potager, it is the story of my home life, starting with being made redundant from Trebah Garden in Feb 2009, to studying Permaculture Design, a set of design principles based on nature, of which some say there are over 300.
I talk through some of the basic principles and key elements using my own photographs of the design taking shape. I touch also, on the history of Permaculture, Peak Oil and the Transition movement as well as forest gardening.
I engage with my audience throughout the talk, encouraging them to start thinking in a Permaculture way. The talk embraces how we added an extension to our barn in Port Navas, upwards and outwards and re designed the garden to grow more food. I end the talk with how I Permacultured Zone '00' ..... myself! All in all, this is a very personal look at a very special journey - the journey of how I put into practice what I, along with a group of 20 others, studied over 6 week-ends in West Penwith during 2009.
